  • RO:M Roadmap 2022: With updated graphics and tons more content to enjoy!

During the RO:M Global Livestream Event last December, we laid out the plan for future content, including the upcoming Intrigue of the Seven Royals storyline! We've kicked development into high gear to push out the content, which includes more rewards, optimizations, new features and classes, at a faster pace. Here's a rundown of what to expect this year:
    1. New GVG Update: Season mode coming in May
Aside from the rotation of rewards, we will be implementing new rules and adjustments (such as the ability to form alliances between guilds during a specific season) while maintaining the integrity of core gameplay mechanics. Once implemented, we'll monitor your feedback to the changes before deciding to keep, optimize, or remove them.
Gameplay mechanics during battle will also be altered to solve the status quo of major guilds being posted while waiting for the battle to start, blocking smaller guilds from participating. While the core rules of the classic War of Emperium in RO:M GVG remain the same, the defending party will also need to defend various strongholds within the castle, which will affect the final score and rewards. Guilds that cannot occupy the entire castle will be able to choose to occupy strongholds as a goal. The safe zone, strongholds, and Emperium will all be in one map, so there should not be any more blockage. The defending party will also need to send forces to different strongholds. At the same time, guilds from different channels will need to outsmart each other within the same channel to ensure everyone has a good GVG experience.
That's not all - we're also adding more awesome GVG rewards! Aside from guild mounts, the continual growth of Artifacts and seasonal ranking rewards, there will be a new Growth System that doesn’t require luck to progress. Instead, adventurers will only need to participate in the new GVG to see their characters advance.

    2. Two New Classes and Heroic Jobs
We'll be releasing not one, but two new classes in 2022: the Occultist (upcoming patch) and Taekwon (future patch). Occultists are powerful spellcasters who can take control of others' souls, bestow powerful buffs to their teammates, and summon spirits to conquer their enemies. Taekwons serve as DPS fighters who can maximize burst damage or damage-over-time output, depending on their blessings from different celestial bodies - namely, the sun, the moon, and the stars. Fun fact: the Taekwon was the final job introduced in the original Ragnarok Online!
We are also introducing Heroic Jobs, which are not represented as a specific job but are represented with the names of mythical heroes. In terms of design, we will reduce the number of skills so that less effort will be needed to master the jobs. This will improve on the current design which has numerous skills, but only a handful that are actually used. With these additions, we hope to give you fresher and more fluid gameplay, while also optimizing issues concerning certain jobs with similar party composition roles behaving similarly.

    3. PVE Update and Extra Resource Generation
In addition to opening new dungeons and difficulty levels for PVE updates, we are also planning to bring in a new iteration of the Wild MVP spawning mechanics. It might manifest in Wild MVPs spawning more frequently and/or at once, stronger, more durable MVPs, and/or MVPs that come with extra skills so that different jobs will be able to pull their weight. When the PVE server first came online, many adventurers loved partying up to raid MVPs and till now still cherish these memories shared together in Ragnarok M: Eternal Love. However, now that many players can defeat these MVPs with greater ease, we'll be changing up the spawning mechanics to add a new twist on the original MVP gameplay and allow adventurers to rediscover the joy of partying up and battling MVPs.
There will also be dungeons that will drop low-to-medium grade Ancient Gear. This will allow returning and new adventurers to challenge dungeons that are level-appropriate, and acquire powerful gear before attempting more difficult dungeons. This should allow especially new players to navigate the vast world of RO:M with minimal guidance.
As for the channel merge, the development team has received feedback from adventurers and are considering a range of gameplay tweaks. One option is to increase the amount of rewards to participants in the adjusted MVP gameplay and the original Apocalypse MVP gameplay mechanics. The new dungeons will also use up combat time quicker in exchange for materials, Zeny, or equipment. The rewards for the new dungeons will be even more beneficial than idling for many jobs, builds, or those who do not like to compete against fellow adventurers. Additional compensation events, including more MVP respawns and addition of farming maps, are being planned for you. Here are a couple of upcoming events in the pipeline:

    Event 1
Channel Merge Compensation Event Part I

    Event 2:
Channel Merge Compensation Event Part II
Event Period: Expected to launch after maintenance in April (the specific details of the event will be announced separately before the event is online)
    1. Mirror instances, farming maps such as Frosting Valley, Kokomo Beach, Royal Hunting Ground, and Soul Hunting Ground will have extra instances, allowing adventurers to farm while restoring the farming output from before.
    2. All Apocalypse Bosses will drop extra loots, allowing more participants to obtain rewards.
    3. Random MVPs will have a chance of dropping double loots occasionally.

    4. Back to the Beginning to Rediscover Your First Love
Our goal with RO:M has always been to bring love in all its forms to our players' lives, and helping them to find their “First Love” and experiencing the greatest adventures together. Since then, we introduced a plethora of game mechanics with account-bound rewards to motivate players to fight alongside or against each other. We hope to introduce new environments that allow players to socialize and form new relationships comfortably, so this year we've put together a team to develop new mechanics that promote love and friendship. One of the things we are revisiting is the Aquarium, which appeared in a previous event and will be returned as a dating location with new picture-worthy spots for budding photographers. We are also looking into adding different species of fish, so adventurers can stroll on the seabed and swim with an array of sea life, including opalescent jellyfish and dolphins. You can even choose to watch the fishes dance with your loved one!

    5. New Collaborations Underway
We have confirmed two new collaboration jobs and development is already underway. We'll be working closely with our collaboration partners to make sure the process goes smoothly, so sit tight for their big debut!
As always, we are ever grateful and warmed by your enduring support for RO:M, and hope to continue adventuring with you for many years to come. Do share your comments, and feedback as we go along so we can keep the development team updated on your aspirations for the world of Midgard!
